Broadway Chorus and Broadway Kids brought "The Great American Songbook" to life November 6-8 staging one of their largest-ever musical productions. Some 88 singers, a six-piece band, and several dozen youth performers squeezed onto the Amador Theater stage for the two hour show.

"The Great American Songbook" refers to predominantly swing music composed roughly between 1920 and 1950, when Broadway, Hollywood and Tin Pan Alley music intertwined. The songs ranged from the very early "Ain't Misbehavin'" to "I Got Rhythm," "Chattanooga Choo-Choo," "Come Rain or Come Shine," "Moonglow," "Skylark," and finally Dave Brubeck’s immortal "Take 5."

Broadway Chorus continues to set attendance records, with over 700 people attending the three concerts. For the second time in the group’s history, the theater opened the balcony to accommodate music-loving patrons. Over 600 people visited www.broadwaychorus.org -- nearly double the number from the last show.

The performances were conducted by Broadway Chorus Director Jenny Matteucci and included a six-piece band featuring members of the Rudy Salvini Big Band, Daniel Lockert on piano, and the Broadway Kids Chorus, made up of local children in grades 1-8 and directed by Martie Muldoon.

Broadway Chorus will return to the stage on Mother’s Day weekend, May 7-9, 2010 for "The Great Choruses of Broadway II."
