SYNOPSIS
|
BEAUTY AND THE BEAST will premiere in the Tri-Valley at the
beautiful Bankhead Theatre located in emerging downtown Livermore and run four weekends July 18
through August 10, 2008.
Based on the Academy Award winning animated feature, the stage version of Disney’s BEAUTY AND THE BEAST
includes all of the wonderful songs from the film, written by Alan Menken and the late Howard Ashman, (the
team responsible for LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS), plus new songs written especially for the Broadway version by
Mr. Menken and Tim Rice (ALADDIN, AIDA). Audiences will be transported to a lovely French provincial town
where the beautiful Belle lives with her father – a dotty inventor. When her father doesn’t return from a trip
to the local fair, Belle rushes off to find him. To her dismay, she discovers he is being held captive in an
old castle by a horrible beast. She trades her freedom for his and the “tale as old as time” begins.
How Belle tames the unfortunate Beast and his ultimate transformation into a ... ;-) continues to enthrall
audiences on Broadway nightly. In an unprecedented move, Disney has allowed MTI to license stage performances
of the
show to Pleasanton Playhouse while the show continues to play in New York. Disney’s BEAUTY AND THE BEAST simply
is family theatre at its best.
The show is produced and directed by Kathleen Breedveld,
with musical direction by Jo Anne Fosselman,
vocal direction by Min Kahng,
and choreography by Shawnel Herbst and Victoria George.
Performances are 8pm Fridays/Saturdays and 2pm Sundays
Jul 18 - Aug 10, 2008, plus special 2pm matinees on Saturday, Aug 2 and Saturday, Aug 9.
Livermore Valley Performing Arts Center Bankhead Theatre, 2400 First Street, Livermore, California.
Tickets are $30 for adults, $28 for seniors age 60 and older and $20
for juniors 18 and younger. There is a substantial discount for groups
purchasing 20 or more tickets. Note that the Bankhead Theater will add a $1 facility fee to the price of each ticket.
